A spare tablet, a code, and it's the family's.
A parent names the tablet and gets a pairing code, from their phone or the web. Type the 8-character code on the tablet within 15 minutes, and it opens as the family board.
It stays signed in until a parent removes it, so nobody signs in each morning. If the parent who paired it is no longer a parent here, a parent gives it a new code. Every parent sees each tablet in Family Settings, with when it was paired and by whom, and can rename it or remove it.

Switched in, you see your own chores, votes and look. Anyone with an account has their balance under their picture. A parent always enters their tablet PIN, the 6-digit PIN they set on their own phone or the web before their first tap, so nobody approves their own chore.
Children who sign in with a handle switch in with a tap, or with their PIN if you turn that on for the family. A child who signs in with email, Google or Microsoft needs a handle and PIN from a parent first. After 2 minutes without a tap, the tablet forgets who was there and goes back to the board. Each tablet can wait anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes.
After 5 wrong PINs, that person waits a minute before trying again, and each wait after that is longer, up to 15 minutes.
Chores get done where everyone can see.
Switched in, a child takes a job and marks their own chores done, adds to the calendar, votes on dinner, adds to the shopping list and rates the family's recipes. Anything else, like buying from the shop, asks for their PIN.
A parent switched in with their PIN approves whatever is waiting for them, and the reward lands in the child's account. Managing the family, PINs and pairing codes stays on a parent's own phone or the web, never on the tablet.
Awake on its charger, and up to date.
Plugged in, the board keeps its screen on, unless a parent turns Keep awake off. On battery it sleeps like any tablet once nobody is switched in. It refreshes on its own, so a chore added on a phone shows up on the board within about a minute, and if the Wi-Fi drops the calendar keeps showing what it had.
Each tablet has its own look: a calendar theme, light or dark, set by a parent. Left idle on its charger, it can play the family's photos until someone taps it.
